When the guy you’re dating tells you he’s planned a surprise date in London and to ‘dress casual’, your mind instantly spirals for several reasons…
1️ What’s the mystery date?
2️ ‘Dress casual?’, but what kind of casual? Are we talking gym leggings and hoodie vibes or jeans and heels pub casual?
3️ A man has organised a date. I’m sorry, what?!
Having been the girl who hasn’t made it past a third date in over three years, the idea that someone had not only planned a date but kept it a secret was throwing me more than anything else.
After some intense outfit contemplation (and failed attempts to fish for details), my excitement hit peak levels. And for someone who already has energy for days, I was now an Energiser bunny on Red Bull.
As we arrived in London, the street-lit beauty of St Paul’s Cathedral set the scene… then we turned the corner, and there it was, the neon glow of the F1 Arcade!
What to Expect at F1 Arcade London
Having had this on my bucket list for some time, I was beyond excited to finally get racing.
Step inside, and you’re instantly hit with a bar-meets-gaming-zone vibe. A live DJ, a chic cocktail bar, ceiling lights that mimic a race track, and rows of immersive racing chairs that call your name.
But first… cocktails!
We created our own racing profiles, sipped on some delicious drinks, and were escorted to our gaming zone. If you’re a non-gamer, don’t panic! The F1 Arcade caters for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to full-throttle pros. There’s a quick demo, plus different difficulty levels, so you can ease into it.
Now, I’ve played my fair share of basic arcade racing games, but this? This was another level. Forget the “foot-down and hope for the best” approach, this game actually punishes bad driving. You need to brake at corners, follow the optimal racing line, and avoid spinning out unless you fancy reversing while your date speeds past laughing.
Safe to say, my competitive streak kicked in. HARD.
The Wager: High Stakes Racing
Now, what’s a game without a little friendly competition? To spice things up, we set a wager: Loser serves breakfast naked on our upcoming holiday. I mean, why not?
With the adrenaline pumping, the beats dropping, and the room buzzing with shouts of encouragement (think horse-race levels of hype), we battled it out. Neck and neck with two wins each, the final race was the decider. My heart was racing. My palms? Clammy. My opponent? Smug.
He was leading right until the very last corner, where he spun out. I overtook him on the finishing line by a fraction of a second. Victory was mine. 🏆
Now, if you’re wondering whether he kept his side of the bet, damn right he did!
He plated up a selection of fresh bread with ham and cheese and proudly served it outside on our Spanish apartment terrace… stark naked. My god, he had some balls (pun fully intended) 😂.
Our neighbours? Unfazed. Me? Dying with laughter. An absolute core memory unlocked!
